eB Technologies leverages QubeConnect’s VoIP solution for public telephony services in rural areas

Challenge
eB Technologies given mandate by Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission to provide telephony services in five rural and under served areas in three states: Kelantan, Terengganu and Perak.
Solution
Reliable telephony services in rural areas equate to low returns on investment due to its limited population and use of services provided. The high Infrastructure cost also adds to the deficit.
When eB Technologies undertook this risky commercial venture under the Universal Service Provider programme, the company was mindful of finding the right partner. eB Technologies selected QubeConnect’s because of the latter’s ability to deliver a reliable telephony service at the lowest cost possible.
To service a population of 20,000 people across three large states, a telecommunications backbone that can leverage off eB Technologies existing nationwide fixed wireless broadband IP network was the way to go.
QubeConnect installed a distributed cluster of five QubeTalk™ QTAP1000 softswitches with the core network across the five locations. The softswitches were connected via QubeConnect IQX™ IP trunking protocol to interconnect with current fixed and cellular providers for IDD and STD calls.
This allowed up to 50 simultaneous calls to be carried within a single IP packet without the packet jitter and latency that had plagued previous VoIP deployments.
One of the softswitches also served as a dedicated gateway to SingTel for international and long distance traffic.
In order to match and exceed industry standards service quality levels, QubeConnect deployed a fault tolerant N+1 cluster of softswitches for backup against failure.
The stackable and horizontally scalable nature of QubeTalk™ softswitches is able to support a higher capacity of subscribers by incrementally adding in additional units of QTAP1000s as the need arises.
The implementation saved bandwidth usage by 60%.
